At one of the gyms where I teach, there is a drink from the juice bar that I simply cannot get enough of! It’s called a GREEN LEMONADE. I have now created my own concoction here at home, but with an added little kick! The recipe follows and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. I only use organic ingredients and the taste is something special.

1 bunch of fresh spinach (I use just a little less than a full bunch…baby spinach will work, but you’ll have to use a lot more and it doesn’t seem to juice as well)

3 lemons (minus the rind or your drink will be incredibly bitter…and if you don’t like it tart, you only two lemons and add a bit a water)
2 small pieces of fresh ginger (or just one if you want less kick)
2 or 3 tablespoons of agave nectar (or sweeten to taste)

Pour over cubed ice and enjoy!

This actually makes about two servings,  or one large serving if like me, you’re not willing to share! And listed below are just a few of the many reasons why you’ll want to keep this powerful drink all to yourself:

Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A, magnesium, folate, manganese, iron, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B2, potassium, and vitamin B6. It’s a very good source of protein, phosphorus, vitamin E, zinc, dietary fiber and copper. Plus, it’s a good source of selenium, niacin, and omega-3 fatty acids. It’s also loaded with flavonoids which act as antioxidants.

Lemon juice is a good source of Vitamin C and can protect your body against germs and bacteria. Lemon juice is also a liver stimulant and can control irritable bowel syndrome. It can control conditions like constipation and diarrhea. It can also help in helping heart burn, some bloating and even helping in subsiding gas pains.

Ginger aids in digestion and is good for nausea and morning sickness. It is great for circulation and contains anti-flammatory properties that could help with arthritis! Ancient peoples used ginger root to cure everything from menstrual cramps to seasickness to food poisoning to body odor.

So there you have it….juice, drink and be healthy!
